Series of ongoing drawing experiments for my honours research, aimed at subverting traditional scientific drawing and botanical aesthetics through rendering and drawing techniques. whilst my drawings take traditional botanical forms, as closer glance they allude to concepts of assemblage and the tentacularity through their fictional, hybrid nature. The ‘plant’ is now more peripheral, as a part of an assemblage where new hybrid life-giving forms can emerge. My drawings take an inherently post-human approach as they demonstrate a fundamental re-defining of the role of human and plants in the hierarchy of species. Through my drawings I aim to cultivate possible futures, by speculating and worlding, revealing the hybridised potential of plant-life by weaving in notions of materiality and science fiction. In my current experiments my drawings have initially been drawn from life/that of real plants, but in the drawing process have become mutated. I aim to draw in the liminal space between the recognisable and extra-terrestrial, the real and almost real.
